Born to a family of cellists, Chris Finckel began his studies with his father, George Finckel. He is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music where he studied with Mischa Schneider and Orlando Cole.
Currently a member of the Manhattan String Quartet and the New York New Music Ensemble, he has performed in Asia, Australia, Europe and Central and North America.
A frequent guest with such acclaimed ensembles as the Tokyo String Quartet, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra and Speculum Musicae, Finckel appeared at the Casals, Santa Fe, Ravinia, Saratoga and Rockport Chamber Music Festivals.
He is a founding member of the North Country Chamber Players. A dedicated performer of music of the 20th century, Finckel has premiered the works of over 75 composers and has recorded for the Nonesuch, New World, CRI, Bridge and Vanguard labels.
