Susan Palma-Nidel

Susan Palma-Nidel, a member of the North Country Chamber Players since its beginnings, is currently the principal flutist of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, the American Composers Orchestra and Speculum Musicae.
She has served as soloist and principal flutist for many groups including Martha Graham and Paul Taylor Dance companies, the Stuttgart, Netherlands and Royal Ballet, the Madeira Bach Festival, Oregon Bach Festival, Santa Fe Opera and Bach Chamber Soloists. With these groups she has performed throughout Europe, South America, and the Far East as well as in the United States.
Ms. Palma-Nidel has appeared in over 50 recordings. Her CD of the Mozart Flute Concerto and Flute and Harp Concerto with Nancy Allen has been named the "the best recording of these works to date" by Gramophone Magazine and as one for its "Best all-time recordings" by Deutsche Grammophon Records.
In the past two seasons Palma-Nidel collaborated with the Borromeo String Quartet in a program of American music including a new work written for her and the quartet. Ms. Palma-Nidel is on the faculty of Columbia University and Montclair State University.
